#19 of 37JPMorgan Athena | NYC and London | ONSITE
I expect you’ve heard of JPMorgan at some point, but probably aren’t familiar with Athena. We’re the bank’s in-house platform for cross-asset pricing, risk management, trade management, e-trading, etc.. There’s a core division (cleverly named “Athena Core”) of about 150 engineers which builds a platform and development libraries that are then used by over 5,000 developers throughout the bank.
The Core Analytics team currently has 8 members and is responsible for extending Athena to research teams and for reducing the gap between research and production use. To give a simplified example, our typical customer is a quant who might be attempting to create a new pricing model. Core Analytics would help him access relevant data sets, explore that data with a library of common statistical functions to, verify the new model with a back-testing framework, and then finally publish the model to production.
Python and C++ are the primary languages, but we’re open to considering exceptional developers with any background. Finance experience is certainly not required. Our two main offices are in NYC and London; we also have satellites in Tel Aviv, Tokyo, and Singapore.
Email Christine.email@example.com to apply.

#22 of 37MarketInvoice | London
Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Analysts
MarketInvoice is the VC-backed peer-to-peer fintech platform that’s building the modern backbone of the economy.
Imagine you’re a young company who’s just won a major contract but your client wants to pay you on 90 day terms when you need to pay your staff and suppliers upfront. That’s where we step in. Our platform uses the peer-to-peer approach to provide the day-to-day operational financing for companies as varied as mobile development agencies, food brands and care homes.
We’re the largest startup in our space worldwide and already lending £25 million/month to small businesses and on track to double that within the next year.
It's a £100bn/year market which is dominated by legacy lenders and banks with complex processes and shady practices. We’re bringing transparency and simplicity to the market.
Drop me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you're interested or just want to chat.
(Our team uses Python but we're open to people from different technology stacks; there are also other teams at the company using PHP & C#/.Net if that's what you're looking for. Also hiring for Product, Marketing, Sales, Ops, etc).
#23 of 37Distilled (www.distilled.net) is hiring in London (UK), New York City (NYC) and Seattle WA - all permanent, full-time roles.
We have a whole host of open positions: https://www.distilled.net/jobs/ - particularly looking for paid and organic search specialists.
We recently had an all-hands email thread where the whole team discussed what brought them to Distilled, and why they are still here. It got many great replies (including a number talking about how people's friends had typically had 2-3 jobs in the time they'd been with us), but this one stood out:
"A combination of an informal environment, freedom, and high expectations - I wanted a place where I could be myself and grow doing/learning things that I was passionate about, while having lots of smart people around me to collaborate with in doing so. I came from a huge, strictly regimented and siloed company, and was fed up with being told "that's a great idea, but it's not your job", and Distilled seemed to be the polar opposite."
#24 of 37Smarkets, London, UK. On-site only.
We're a modern betting exchange, going technology first to enable proper price competition in a field of fat commissions. A small, agile, and fast-growing team, who recently broke £1 billion in lifetime trades on our platform. We're already well on our way to hitting the £2B milestone.
Smarkets develops a reliable, low-latency, highly concurrent betting exchange based on trading exchange designs. We're also building a fast, modern web interface to allow for a smoother experience. Servicing our users is top priority.
The Smarkets platform is written predominantly on Python and Erlang, and relies heavily on asynchronous programming techniques. We use REST where we can. Life at Smarkets circles around people, version control, configuration management and automated testing. We can - and do - deploy to production several times a day.
If you like the idea of flat structure and practical engineering approach, see our jobs at https://smarkets.com/about/jobs/
#25 of 37Pivotla Labs | ONSITE in NYC, SF and many other locations | Engineers, Designers, Product Managers, Data Scientists | Visa and relocation assistance
Pivotal Labs is a division of Pivotal Inc.
We look for aptitude over APIs. It doesn't matter wether your resumé says PHP or PhD: if you're smart, know some stuff and have empathy, we want to work with you.
Labs helps clients to become better at development. For engineering we are religiously lean and agile -- in practice that means we pair program and TDD every line of code from the outside. Our product managers are fantastic at keeping products sharply focused, our designers are masters from users to pixels. We have a growing data science practice, and some engagements include all four roles.
Our NYC office is growing fast to meet exploding demand for Labs, Cloud Foundry and Big Data Suite.
We are also hiring in all our offices, including new offices: SF, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boulder, Denver, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, Toronto, London, Dublin, Berlin, Tokyo and Sydney.
We provide visa and relocation assistance. In the NYC office we have about 15 people from overseas, including Australians like me.
At the office we have free breakfast, weekly tech talks, good benefits and competitive pay. Ping pong is not mandatory, but it's popular. I think west-coast ping pong is harder to beat, but east-coast style is more entertaining to watch. The beer fridge has more IPA than I prefer but I guess that's life in paradise.
My time at Pivotal, in both Labs and CF, is the best job I've ever had -- I've learnt more here than anywhere else. Everyone is smart and fun to work with.
You can apply through our website: http://pivotal.io/careers. You can also email me at email@example.com to answer any questions you might have and potentially help me score one of our generous referral bonuses.
Please note that emailing me confers no particular advantage over applying directly and I might not refer you. As a consultant I can only reply to emails during non-billable hours, I hope that's OK.
I also posted an ad for Cloud Foundry: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10311634
#26 of 37Okta: San Francisco|London|Seattle|Toronto

We're a passionate group of people who believe that cloud architecture is here to stay. And our laser-like focus on customer success and technical/operational excellence has enabled us to be a leader in identity management.
It's a fast-paced, agile work environment and we need the best and the brightest to help us change the world. Building and selling the future of IT is no small feat - you love challenges, work hard, play nice with others - and if you know your way around a ping pong table, that doesn’t hurt either.
And we’re just getting started.

#31 of 37ITV plc | Platform Engineer(s) | London, UK (ONSITE)
ITV are building a new platform to host all of our applications - internal and external. Whether it’s the system that sells the adverts in Corrie, pays Ant & Dec, schedules Emmerdale for broadcast or gets TOWIE on to the ITV Player, it’ll live here and you can help build it.
As a Platform Engineer you’ll be embedded in a team responsible for a product end-to-end. Working closely with the developers, testers, product owners and scrum masters you’ll make sure the environments are ticking over nicely, polish the build pipeline and make sure everything’s looking good in production.
You’ll be jointly responsible for the quality of everything the team produces - if you build it, you run it. One day you’ll be helping deploy a new microservice, the next watching it handle millions of requests during the X Factor final. The coffee’s not bad, either.
Our ethos is simple: automate, automate, automate. We believe in using the right tool for the job - right now we’re using things like AWS, puppet, docker, jenkins, sensu, redis, terraform, centos, rabbitmq, nginx, varnish, haproxy, trello, github, slack and openstack - but we’re always keeping an eye on the future and experimenting with new tech. We want our team to be two things: ‘smart’ and ‘kind’. If that’s you and this sounds like fun then I’d like to hear from you - email in my profile.
What we offer:
* Great salary
* Five weeks holiday (plus national holidays)
* Annual bonus
* Training + conferences
* SAYE scheme (discounted shares)
* Life cover (4x salary)
* Generous pension (matches your contribution + 3%)
* ‘Relish’ scheme: gym, extra holiday, cycle to work, childcare vouchers, private healthcare
* Volunteer days
* Further education sponsorship
* Discounts at highstreet + online retailers
* Tickets to shows

#TheXamarinStory. We created Xamarin (https://xamarin.com/) because we knew there had to be a better way to build mobile apps. We’re developers, so we know what developers want: a modern programming language, powerful tools, an efficient and delightful workflow and the power to create the best user experiences. We are on a mission to make it fast, easy and fun to build great mobile apps.
Systems Engineer (SF Onsite) https://xamarin.com/jobs/ojxx0fw7 Would you like to be part of the beginnings of Xamarin's internal tech ops team? This is the challenge you have been waiting for! You will be heavily involved with both server and identity infrastructure automation, network operations, and infrastructure support and security.
Mobile Architect (SF Onsite + Remote) https://xamarin.com/jobs/ou6n0fwH We are looking for Senior Mobile Consultants to join our small Strategic Client Services team across the globe to help our clients realize the most out of their investment in our products (Xamarin Platform, TestCloud, and Insights). Successful candidates are multidimensional developers and client facing leaders that love to architect, build and optimize exciting mobile apps across every single industry around the world.
Junior Mobile Development Trainer (Remote Contract-to-Perm) https://xamarin.com/jobs/oLLxZfwM Do you have an ability to teach and inspire others regarding technical concepts and skills? Do you love C# and mobile development? Would you take pride in helping individuals and companies transform themselves and achieve their mobile strategy objectives? Yes to all - send us a note and tell us why - Xamarin University is excited to hear from you!
We have more jobs available in Boston, San Francisco and London including a few REMOTE positions! Complete list of all Xamarin opportunities (multiple locations): https://xamarin.com/jobs
Interested to learn more, chat about what it’s like to work at Xamarin? My direct: email@example.com
For the server side -- apps authenticate with OAuth2, speaking JSON to a REST API; our server-side back end and webapp are primarily Java-based, gradually being refactoring towards a microservice structure. So if you're interested in helping out as well implementing new REST calls as needed, Java experience will ease that path.
More about PKB
I've worked in a lot of different sectors since I first started writing code in the late 90s, including education, b2b supply chains, POS systems, e-commerce, banking, and anti-spam.
PKB has been head-and-shoulders above the rest in everything I care about.
We're building something that actively, directly, improves the lives of people in general -- not selling more stuff, helping others sell more stuff, or making comfortable people a bit more comfortable. If you're interested in PKB's growth, funding, profitability, contracts, etc., ask -- our CEO is also active on HN. I'm in the CTO role.
We're pragmatic about work/life balance. I work from France, or sometimes from Malaysia, where my in-laws live. Almost half of the developers have small children at home -- personally, I get my kids up in the morning, and I'm with them entirely late-afternoon & evening (while my wife works), then I fill in some extra hours around the edges as needed. We're collaboratively figuring out what works (e.g., how many working hours should you overlap to collaborate effectively?), and planning our lives and our work around what's effective, not around some photocopied list of rules stapled to a cubicle wall. One of our developers only codes part time (and occasionally takes long leaves of absence), because he's also a theatre director.
Culture -- we live in various parts of the UK, central France, Bangalore, Vienna, Budapest, NYC and Costa Rica; we range in age (though I don't actually know everyone's ages, so I can't say exactly!). We're not all native English speakers -- but communication skills trump even technical skills for remote teams, so we all understand, speak and write English easily and with the confidence to interrupt if we didn't catch something. We collaborate, not compete -- let ideas fight it out, but we're on the same team. We like to laugh (but jokes stay tasteful), we share stories of what we did over the weekend (but these don't normally end "then I passed out").
If we sound like a good match, get in touch: https://www.patientsknowbest.com/careers.html (I'm also contactable directly -- see profile -- but I get a lot of email). I do review all applications, though currently our hiring process is slow and with not-great communication; you should probably mention it if you think you're a great fit but need to jump to something immediately.
